about

The second full length album from Canadian guitar-drums trio Cobra & Vulture, ‘Vesuvius at Home’ is available on Friday, March 4th from Lava Cheetah Music.

Recorded and mixed with patience over the course of two years, ‘Vesuvius at Home’ is the band’s first album after an eight year hiatus. The twelve songs on the album feature the band’s signature arresting vocals and an intertwined dual guitar attack care of its two songwriters, Erin Ross and Amber Goodwyn (Natural Sympathies), that’s kept grounded by the inimitable drumming of Jeremy MacCuish (Smokes, Nanimal, Nancy Pants, Parlovr). Longtime band friend David Krajic mixed the album as he had done with the band’s previous releases.

The songs on ‘Vesuvius at Home’ explore themes of domestic intimacy, philosophical wonder, and existential anxiety. Whether announcing themselves with bombast or offering droning ruminations, each song delves into introverted epiphanies and quiet passions. It’s no wonder, then, that the album’s title is a quote from reclusive poet Emily Dickinson.

Erin and Amber met in an alternative Montreal high school in the late 90s and immediately started collaborating. They met Jeremy about ten years later and realized with delight that he was the missing third of the creative triangle. Under various band names and within solo projects, the band and individual members of Cobra & Vulture have performed in several venues and festivals across Canada including NXNE, Pop Montreal, Sled Island, Swamp Fest, and many others. The band has released two EPs, one LP, and has a new twelve song album coming out in early 2022.

Throughout major life changes, great distances and more, Cobra & Vulture’s decades-long bonds have stood the tests of time, and their shared musical history keeps the band’s creative output flourishing and deeply meaningful.

“Cobra & Vulture were able to master those very exciting overlaps between like, weird and beautiful, challenging and simple, heavy and delicate, a real gem of goodness in the music world." - Mikey Heppner (Priestess, Beat Cops)

“In that golden space where strident guitar stutters, solid-yet-oblique percussion and the mightiest of vocal melodies merge comes Cobra & Vulture, a guitar-and-drums trio that embrace a unique form of indie folk-rock that is boldly insolent amidst their delicate-yet-deadly precision.” Chrix Morin (Slow Down Molasses, Ominocity)
